BP p.l.c. engages in global energy business and delivers energy products and services to people around the world. It operates through three segments worldwide: Upstream, Downstream, Rosneft. BP is the main global brand of the company. It is the name that appears on production platforms, refineries, ships and corporate offices as well as on wind farms, research facilities and at retail service stations. The Upstream segment is involved in the oil and natural gas exploration, field development and production, midstream transportation, storage and processing, marketing and trading of liquefied natural gas (LNG), biogas, power and natural gas liquids (NGLs). The Upstream segment also engages in the ownership and management of crude oil and natural gas pipelines, processing facilities and export terminals as well as in NGLs processing business.

The Downstream segment refines, manufactures, markets, transports, supplies, and trades in crude oil, petroleum, and petrochemical products and related services to wholesale and retail customers. It offers gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel, lubricants and related products and services to the automotive, industrial, marine, and energy markets under the Castrol, BP, and Aral brands. The Downstream segment also offers petrochemical products, such as purified terephthalic acid, paraxylene, acetic acid, olefins, derivatives and specialty petrochemical products.

The Rosneft segment engages in the exploration and production of hydrocarbons, as well as jet fuel, bunkering, bitumen, and lubricants activities. This segment also owns and operates 13 refineries in Russia and approximately 2,960 retail service stations in Russia and internationally. The Rosneft company also produces ethanol, bio-isobutanol, bio-power and solar energy.

Dividend policy

Dividends are the way BP makes distributions from the company’s profits to shareholders. The board decide the level of the dividend with each quarters results. If an interim dividend is declared BP pays the dividend about eight weeks after the announcement. The amount and timing of a dividend may be changed at any time without notice. A dividend is paid for each share, so the amount you receive depends on the number of shares you own.
